ALBANY, N.Y. - Senior guard
Ashley Vanderwall scored a career-high 38 points on 60.8 percent (14-for-23) shooting as The College of Saint Rose defeated visiting Georgian Court 80-60 this afternoon. The 38 points tied Mary Lewis '07 for the second-highest single-game output in Golden Knights annals. Vanderwall, who was 9-of-12 from beyond the arc, dished out four assists and had three blocked shots in the victory as well.
Â
"Today was a great team win," said Saint Rose Head Coach
Karen Haag. "We had 21 assists and did a good job finding the open player at the right time and place. It was a special day for Ashley, she was unconscious offensively."
Â
The Golden Knights (5-4) received contributions across the lineup in the non-conference triumph. Senior guard
Isa Vara de Rey tossed in nine points and handed out a game-high five assists, while junior forward forward
Leah Dollard and junior guard
Courtney Clasen added eight points apiece.
Â
Senior forward Destiny Thompson topped the Lions with 17 points on 8-of-12 shooting. She registered eight rebounds and two blocks in the setback. Freshman forward Ivona Krakic played a strong all-around game, finishing with 12 points on 60.0 percent (6-for-10) shooting, five rebounds, four assists and three blocks.
Â
Vanderwall was impressive to start the game, helping Saint Rose open up an 11-3 lead. The senior totaled the first 14 Saint Rose points and had 24 at intermission as the Golden Knights held a 44-38 halftime advantage. Saint Rose, which led by as many as 21, began the second half on a 13-5 run to seize control. Georgian Court (1-8) would never get the deficit back to single digits.
