SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The College of Saint Rose outscored Bloomfield 26-11 in the opening quarter of this afternoon's 79-52 AIC Holiday Classic victory.
The Golden Knights (7-4), which enjoyed a 58-30 rebounding advantage, including 18 offensive boards, and got to the foul line 32 times, put four players in double figures in the non-conference win. Senior guard
Ashley Vanderwall and junior guard
Courtney Clasen led the team with 16 points apiece. Vanderwall went 4-of-7 from beyond the arc, while Clasen recorded a 7-of-10 shooting performance.
Sophomore forward
Nina Fedullo was a strong presence in the post, registering her first collegiate "double-double" with career highs of 14 points and 14 rebounds.
"Today was a great finish to a solid weekend," said Saint Rose Head Coach
Karen Haag. "We had another great all-around team effort, executed well and followed our game plan. Our rebounding was outstanding, particularly Nina and (senior forward) Zoe (McDonald)."
Senior forward
Karissa Birthwright added 13 points on 4-of-6 shooting.
Saint Rose began the game on a 20-6 run en route to a 38-24 halftime lead. Bloomfield (1-8) battled back to cut the deficit to nine, 42-33, midway through the third period. On the next possession, senior guard
Isa Vara de Rey swished a trey from the corner. The three-pointer commenced a 15-2 Saint Rose run across the next 4:20 to seal it.
Freshman guard Caitlin Townes led the Bears with 16 points.
