PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. –The College of Saint Rose rallied from eight down in the final four minutes only to fall 73-69 at Northeast-10 Conference rival Pace University tonight.
Â
Senior forward
Matt Cerutti finished with 16 points and eight rebounds, and freshman forward
Sekou Sylla registered his first career "double-double" behind 10 points and 15 boards to lead the Golden Knights (1-3/0-3 NE10). Also, senior guard
Shane Herrity tossed in 14 points.
Â
Junior forward Peyton Wejnert had 21 points and 11 boards, and senior forward Greg Poleon contributed 17 points behind 7-for-8 shooting from the field to propel the Setters (3-2/1-1 NE10) who have now won three of their last four outings.
Â
The game was close throughout with 10 lead changes and eight ties. Herrity afforded the contest its final deadlock when he knocked down a 3-pointer with 1:24 remaining to make it a 69-69 affair. However, sophomore forward Austin Gilbertson countered with a trey of his own to put Pace ahead to stay with 1:00 showing on the clock.
Â
The two squads then came up empty on their next possessions, which put the ball back in Saint Rose hands. However, Herrity misfired on an-off-balance trey with a mere eight ticks left. Junior guard Ray Montilus subsequently went 1-for-2 from the stripe after he was intentionally fouled to account for the final margin.
Â
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights are back in action Saturday with a 1:00 pm non-league game at LIU Post. Meanwhile, the Setters have a 4:00 pm non-conference date Sunday at Mercy College in West Chester County.
