ALBANY, N.Y.-Southern Connecticut State shot 60.4 percent (29-for-48) from the floor and put five players in double-figures scoring to upend The College of Saint Rose 87-64 in tonight's Northeast-10 Conference opener for both clubs inside the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.
 
The Owls (1-2/1-0 NE10) jumped out to a 27-8 lead that the Golden Knights whittled to four, 39-35, after senior forward 
Matt Cerutti finished a fast break. However, Southern Connecticut State scored 11 unanswered points to go in the locker room up 15, 50-35, at intermission. The Owls maintained a double digit advantage throughout the second stanza.

Michael Wearne tossed in 13 apiece to lead Saint Rose (1-1/0-1 NE10). Cerutti also hauled in eight rebounds, while freshman forward 
Sekou Sylla finished with 12 points and eight boards throughout 23 minutes off the bench. Senior guard 
Shane Herrity contributed 10 points and five assists.
 
Sophomore guard C.J. Seaforth led Southern Connecticut State with 22 points behind 5-for-8 shooting from the arc.
 
Looking ahead, both squads return to the hardwood for 3:30 pm NE10 games Saturday. The Golden Knights head to Springfield, Mass. to take on American International, while the Owls host Le Moyne.
