GOLDEN KNIGHTS MOVE TO 2-0

Saint Rose Upends Roberts Wesleyan 58-57

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The College of Saint Rose women's basketball team tallied seven of the final nine points to upend host Roberts Wesleyan 58-57 in final day Redhawks Classic action.

The biggest basket across the final 3:17 was a jumper with 48 seconds remaining by senior forward Karissa Birthwright. The bucket gave the Golden Knights (2-0) a 56-55 lead. From there, the teams would alternate free throw attempts, including a make by sophomore forward Nina Fedullo with four seconds left for the decisive margin.

Roberts Wesleyan junior forward Emily Miller, who registered a "double-double" of 23 points and 16 rebounds, was able to get off a shot at the buzzer. However, the close-range jumper did not fall.

"We didn't shoot the three as well as yesterday and had some challenging matchups," said Saint Rose Head Coach Karen Haag. "But we made some big stops and got important rebounds down the stretch."

Birthwright topped Saint Rose with 14 points on seven-of-nine shooting, while senior guard Ashley Vanderwall added 11 points and seven rebounds. Senior forward Zoe McDonald grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds, including six in the final period.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose will host Southern Connecticut State on Wednesday at 5:30 pm. Roberts Wesleyan (0-2) returns to action Friday night vs. Felician as part of the Dominican Tournament.
