ALBANY, N.Y.-The College of Saint Rose put itself in the catbird seat at the outset and never looked back on the way to a 5-0 victory against visiting Saint Anselm in today's Northeast-10 Conference Championship Quarterfinal. In the process, the fourth-seed Golden Knights (13-3-3) avenged a 2-1 setback to the fifth-seed Hawks (9-7-1) two weeks ago in Manchester, N.H.
Â
Saint Rose will now visit Franklin Pierce for a 7:00 pm semifinal match on Friday in Rindge, N.H. The top-seed Ravens advanced with tonight's 5-1 win against visiting American International.
Â
Senior midfielder
Julianne Johnston found the back of the net three times, while junior midfielder
Caitlyn Dabagian set up Johnston's second strike and finished herself to close out the scoring. Meanwhile, junior keeper
Marika Laurendeau registered seven saves to record her ninth clean sheet this autumn.
Â
Junior forward
Nina Predanic set the tone a mere 2:13 into the contest when she outraced a defender to gather a feed up the middle from junior midfielder
Morgan Burchhardt. Predanic subsequently deposited her strike inside the right post.
Â
Johnston made 2-0 some 25 minutes later when she touched home a corner that senior midfielder
Sophia Constantine delivered from the right flag. Five minutes after that, she struck from the right flank off a Dabagian pass to make it a 3-0 halftime affair.
Â
In the second period, Johnston ricocheted a penalty kick off of Saint Anselm sophomore keeper Payton Wildrick to make 4-0 at the 66:22 mark and then Dabagian made a nice run up the right flank, before firing a shot into the lower far side with 69:42 elapsed.
Â
The Golden Knights actually created a few more opportunities as junior midfielder
Deanna Trongone rifled a shot from 20-yards out off the crossbar with 8:14 gone by. Burchhardt then one-timed a volley from the right side that rattled the bar as well with 27:23 expired.
