SAINT ROSE GROUNDS VISITING OWLS, 3-1

Schweitzer and Kubik Record "Double-Doubles" in NE10 Win

ALBANY, N.Y. - Junior outside hitter Stevie Schweitzer and senior setter Sam Kubik had double-doubles as The College of Saint Rose women's volleyball team defeated visiting Southern Connecticut State 3-1 tonight. The Golden Knights earned the Northeast-10 Conference victory by scores of 25-21, 25-20, 20-25, 25-23.

Schweitzer recorded 10 kills and 14 digs, while Kubik dished out 39 assists and elevated 12 SCSU attacks. Senior middle hitter Shayna Webber led Saint Rose (11-7/2-2 NE10) with 12 kills and seven total blocks. For the match, the Golden Knights totaled 13 blocks, seven service aces and held the Owls to .135 hitting.

"This was a great win against a strong NE10 opponent," said Saint Rose Head Coach Vanessa Volpe-Rivera. "Our serving was able to keep their offense out of system, which helped our defense stay on point."

Southern Connecticut State (9-11/3-3 NE10) had three players with double figure in kills. Senior outside hitter Leanna Jadus led all players with 14 kills. The SCSU career kills leader added 11 digs for her tenth double-double of the fall. Senior middle hitter Alyssa Gage added 13 kills, while junior outside hitter Gabriela Vazquez finished 12 rallies and recorded 13 digs. Freshman setter Kailyn O'Neal registered 42 assists and 12 digs.

After storming out to a 14-5 lead to take the opening set, the Golden Knights used a 10-2 run to go up 21-11 in the second set. After a furious SCSU comeback attempt fell short, the Owls avoided the sweep on some strong hitting and defense. Saint Rose closed the fourth set on an 11-4 jaunt to avoid a decisive fifth set. The Golden Knights blocked three Owl attack attempts and capitalized upon five Southern Connecticut miscues down the stretch.

Both teams have home matches on Friday at 7pm. The Golden Knights host Pace University in NE10 action. Meanwhile, SCSU entertains non-conference foe Concordia.
