ALBANY, N.Y.-Thirteenth-ranked Adelphi scored twice late in the second half to upend The College of Saint Rose 2-0 in Northeast-10 Conference action tonight on a cold and damp Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. In the process, the Panthers (11-2-1/9-1-0 NE10) extended their win streak to eight games.
Â
Senior forward James Thirstino twice set up freshman midfielder Paolo Marciano to account for the two strikes. Marciano tapped in a quick feed through the area with 77:26 expired and then added the insurance marker six minutes later when he one-touched a pass from the left side.
Â
Freshman keeper
Ryan Henning made three saves for the Golden Knights (7-5-1/4-5-1 NE10) throughout 85 minutes of action in his collegiate debut. Junior Matt Apicella came up with three stops for Adelphi, which was tabbed as the favorite in the NE10 preseason coaches' poll.
Â
Up next, both teams have 4:00 pm conference dates Saturday. Saint Rose travels to Manchester to face #18 Southern New Hampshire, while Adelphi hosts Franklin Pierce.
