WALTHAM, Mass. - The College of Saint Rose rallied from a 16 point, third period deficit to get to within four in the final five minutes, before falling 76-65 to host and seventh-ranked Bentley in
Northeast-10 Conference action this afternoon.
Â
Sophomore forward
Leah Dollard led five Golden Knights (6-8/4-4 NE10) in double-figures with a career-high 17 points. It marked her sixth consecutive double-digit game.
Â
Junior guard
Ashley Vanderwall tossed in 11 points, while sophomore guard
Takora McIntyre finished with 10 points, six boards, and five assists. Freshman forward
Nina Fedullo and junior guard
Isa Vara de Rey also had 10 points apiece.
Â
Senior guard Macchi Smith led Bentley (14-1/8-1 NE10) with 15 points behind a 5-for-8 shooting effort.
Â
Saint Rose used an 8-0 fourth period run to make it 59-55 with 5:46 remaining. McIntyre knocked down a 3-pointer, Fedullo finished inside, and Vara de Rey drained a trey as well to account for the jaunt. However, the Falcons responded by scoring eight of the game's next 10 points to get it back to double digits.
Â
Both teams needed some time to thaw out, combining to shoot 8-for-34 in a 10-10 opening period. Bentley, which has now won six straight, proceeded to net the first nine points of the second period to take a 38-27 halftime lead.
Â
Looking ahead, both squads have 5:30 pm conference games this Wednesday. The Golden Knights host Stonehill, while the Falcons travel to Springfield to take on American International.
