ALBANY, N.Y. – A trio of players from The College of Saint Rose scored in double figures in a 76-63 setback to visiting Stonehill in
Northeast-10 Conference action on Wednesday night.
Junior guard
Ashley Vanderwall led the Golden Knights (6-9/4-5 NE10) with 19 points on 7-for-14 shooting from the floor. Junior forwards
Zoe McDonald and
Karissa Birthwright chipped in with 12 points apiece. McDonald made six of her nine field goal attempts and finished a rebound shy of a "double-double", while Birthwright blocked a career-best four Skyhawk shots.
Stonehill (12-2/8-1 NE10), now winners in 12 of its past 13 games, began the contest on a 10-3 run during the opening 3:19. Â After Saint Rose made a run of its own, the visitors used an 11-0 spurt sandwiched around the first and second periods to open up what was a one-point game. Senior forward Samantha Hyslip totaled 14 of her team-high 19 points in the first half for the Skyhawks, which led 37-24 at intermission. Saint Rose could never get the game back to single digits.
Stonehill senior forward Elizabeth Grip registered a "double-double" of 16 points and 10 rebounds in the win.
Looking ahead, both teams have road NE10 games on Saturday at 1:30 pm. The Golden Knights visit Franklin Pierce in Rindge, N.H., while Stonehill heads to Southern Connecticut State in New Haven.
