NORTH ANDOVER, Mass.-The College of Saint Rose shot better than 50.0 percent from the floor for the seventh time this season to chalk up today's 82-74 victory at
Northeast-10 Conference rival Merrimack in a game that pitted two teams with legitimate postseason aspirations.
"Our defensive effort in the first half helped us get a nice lead. Our guys made some great hustle plays and we made our free throws down the stretch to secure the victory," said assistant coach
Mike Perno.
The Golden Knights (16-5/11-2 NE10) buried 56.6 percent (30-for-53) of their field goal attempts and outrebounded the Warriors (14-7/10-4 NE10) by a 29-17 margin off the defensive glass to chalk up their seventh win in the last eight outings.

Senior forward
Julian Lipinski led Saint Rose with 21 points and seven boards, while senior guard
Jamaal Greenwood and junior guard
Shane Herrity scored 11 points and handed out three assists apiece. Senior guard
Mical-Ryan Boyd added 10 points on the way to becoming only the 32nd player in program annals to ascend the 1,000 (1,004) point plateau.

Sophomore guard Juvaris Hayes had 17 points and nine assists for Merrimack, which fell for just the second time in eight home outings this season.

Saint Rose got out to a quick start with a 12-3 cushion and proceeded to limit the Warriors to nine field goals on the way to a 43-24 lead at the break. Senior guard
Jamaal Greenwood boosted the advantage to a game high 23, 47-24, in the opening two minutes of the second stanza with a put-back basket.

However, Merrimack outscored the Golden Knights 38-20 throughout the ensuing 13 minutes to cut its deficit to five, 67-62, with 5:25 to play. Herrity then knocked down a trey and Greenwood finished inside to make it a 10 point, 74-64, affair with 2:15 left. The Warriors made one final push to again get to within five, but Saint Rose went 6-for-6 from the stripe throughout the final 24 seconds to seal the victory.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights are off until next Saturday, February 3 when they host Southern Connecticut State for the second half a conference doubleheader. Tip-off for the Capital Region Alumni Day Game is set for 3:30 pm. Meanwhile, Merrimack is home again Wednesday to face NE10 rival Assumption at 7:30 pm.
Notes: The Golden Knights are now 8-1 at home, 6-3 on the road and have won 10 of their last 12. Five players are averaging between 15.2 and 9.2 points on the year. Saint Rose has put five players in twin-figures scoring on four occasions and has had four drop in at least 10 points six other times, including this afternoon. Furthermore, six players pulled off the feat in an 88-75 victory against visiting Southern New Hampshire on January 17. Boyd and Lipinski are the top point producers. Lipinski is scoring at a 13.6 ppg clip and is pulling down 7.0 rebounds on a regular basis. He is second in the NE10 with 1.7 blocks per game. Cerutti is fifth among the league leaders in rebounding (7.6). Herrity has been in double-figures scoring in each of the last six games. As a team, the Golden Knights have shot better than 50.0 percent from the floor in three of their last four outings. They are second in the NE10 in scoring defense (66.7) and blocks (3.7), and stand fourth in field goal percentage defense (42.8). Saint Rose has won the turnover battle 14 times this season. It is 11-3 in those games and has a +1.7 turnover margin on the year. All nine players who saw action today had at least one assist.
