GOLDEN KNIGHTS ESCAPE FRANKLIN PIERCE WITH OVERTIME WIN

Saint Rose prevails in a game that features 18 ties and 19 lead changes


RINDGE, N.H. - The College of Saint Rose overcame a nine point, third period deficit to upend host Northeast-10 Conference rival Franklin Pierce 64-62 in overtime this afternoon.
 
"I am glad that we were able to buckle down and make some big plays in overtime to grab a win on the road," said head coach Karen Haag on a game that featured a staggering 18 ties and 19 lead changes.
 
In the extra session, sophomore guard Takora McIntyre earned three the hard way with 1:47 left to give Saint Rose (7-9/5-5 NE10) a 63-62 lead. Junior guard Isa Vara de Rey then went 1-for-2 from the foul line following a Ravens turnover with 15 seconds left. Franklin Pierce misfired on two final shots to allow the Golden Knights to hang on.
 
Junior forward Karissa Birthwright topped Saint Rose with 21 points on 9-of-14 shooting, while Vara de Rey finished with 10. Also, freshman forward Nina Fedullo added six points and nine rebounds while McIntyre wound up with nine points and six assists. Junior forward Zoe McDonald finished with eight points, six boards, and three assists in 20 minutes off the bench.
 
Senior forward Diondra Woumn recorded a "double-double" to lead the Ravens (4-11/1-9 NE10) with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Senior guard Jemma Thacker added 15 points, while senior forward Kelsey Mayo tossed in 11.
 
Looking ahead, both squads have 5:30 pm home conference dates Wednesday. The Golden Knights host Southern New Hampshire for Blackout Night, while the Ravens take on Southern Connecticut State.
