ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose rallied from an early 1-0 deficit to upend previously unbeaten
Northeast-10 Conference rival Assumption 3-2 in double-overtime at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex tonight.
Â
Sophomore forward
Nina Predanic delivered the game-winner when she collected a through pass near the area from sophomore midfielder
Caitlyn Dabagian, deked a defender, and dribbled in before slipping the ball into the left side midway through the second extra session.
"It was just a hard fought win. We showed a lot of grit and resilience throughout a tough game," said head coach
Laurie Darling Gutheil.
Â
The match was played evenly played throughout as the Golden Knights (5-0-1/4-0-0 NE10) manufactured an 18-15 shot advantage, including a 9-7 edge in threats-on-target.
Â
Between the posts, Saint Rose sophomore
Marika Laurendeau and Assumption sophomore Alexis Nason both made several outstanding stops throughout the evening to keep the contest close. Laurendeau came up with five saves, while Nason registered six.
Â
The Greyhounds (4-1-0/2-1-0 NE10), who entered the contest ninth in the country with a league-leading 3.75 goals per game, struck a mere 1:32 into the affair when junior forward Kallie Villemaire found the back of the net on the game's first shot.
Â
However, Predanic set up Dabagian 15 minutes later to tie it 1-1 and then sophomore midfielder
Karmyn Carter drove home a loose ball from about 25-yards out with 39 minutes elapsed to afford Saint Rose a 2-1 halftime lead.
Â
Villemaire struck again though in the 76th minute when she headed home a restart off the foot of junior midfielder Ania Spina to bring about overtime.
Â
Assumption nearly ended it in the opening seconds of the second OT when Villemaire drove a shot off the far right post. Four minutes later, Dabagian and Predanic linked up to allow Saint Rose to remain unbeaten on the year.
