MANCHESTER, N.H.-The College of Saint Rose rallied from a late 1-0 deficit to upend host
Northeast-10 Conference rival Saint Anselm 2-1 in double-overtime today.
Â
Senior midfielder
David Haston drove home the game-winner when he redirected a cross off the foot of freshman midfielder
Oskar Aastroem just 23 seconds into the second extra session. Sophomore forward
Shane Fuller also picked up an assist on the play.
Â
"I am very proud of the way the boys fought today and earned a comeback victory against a tough Saint Anselm team. We had a stretch of games where we had been playing well, but coming up short on results. I am so happy for the guys to dig in and get the win on the road," said head coach
John Ciano.
Â
The match was evenly played as the Hawks (0-3-1/0-2-0 NE10) generated a 14-13 edge in shots. Meanwhile, corner kick opportunities stood at three apiece.
Â
Saint Anselm struck first with 25:42 gone by when senior midfielder Jack Heintzelman drove home a shot from just outside the area. However, the Golden Knights (1-4-0/1-1-0 NE10) leveled the affair at the 72:13 juncture when freshman back
Aaron Muia delivered a cross that senior midfielder
Elidon Bardhollari touched in to eventually force overtime.
Â
Between the posts, sophomore
Gianni Carillo turned aside four threats-on-target as did senior Helio Meirelles Neto at the other end for the Hawks.
Â
Looking ahead, both squads return to conference action Wednesday. Saint Rose has a 7:00 pm date at Franklin Pierce in Rindge, N.H., while Saint Anselm has a 3:30 pm meeting at Saint Michael's in Colchester, Vt.
