ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose leveled a 1-0 halftime match at the onset of the second period before visiting American International added two more strikes to upend the Golden Knights 3-1 in the
Northeast-10 Conference opener for both sides tonight.
Â
The Yellow Jackets (2-2/1-0 NE10) featured a balanced attack with five players figuring in their scoring. Senior forward
Suleiman Haruna-iya accounted for the Golden Knights (0-4/0-1 NE10) goal, while sophomore keeper
Gianni Carillo recorded five of his six saves throughout the second half of his Saint Rose debut.
Â
Freshman midfielder JP Rylah scored unassisted with 33:44 elapsed to get American International on the board first. Saint Rose countered when junior forward
Ryan Rooney sent a well-placed ball onto the foot of a streaking Haruna-iya who finished far side off the left flank to make it a 1-1 affair with just more than a minute gone by in the second stanza.
Â
However, the Yellow Jackets scored what proved to be the game-winner 10 minutes later when sophomore forward Steven Hernandez one-touched home a cross from midfielder Alexandre Frank. Sophomore midfielder Jake Durham then added an insurance marker with less than four minutes remaining.
Â
Looking ahead, both squads return to league action Saturday. The Golden Knights have an 11:00 am meeting at Saint Anselm in Manchester, N.H., while the Yellow Jackets host Stonehill at 1:00 pm.
