MYLER HOMERS TO GIVE GOLDEN KNIGHTS A SPLIT WITH SAINT ANSELM

ALBANY–Sophomore outfielder Astasia Myler hit the go-ahead home run in the top of the seventh as The College of Saint Rose split a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader with Saint Anselm this afternoon. The Golden Knights lost the opener 2-1, before winning the second game 4-3.

"It's pretty exciting," said Myler about her homer. "I had some bad at-bats earlier in the game, but was able to come back."

Sophomore utility Briana Bowen and Myler combined to go 5-for-11 with two doubles and four RBI in the twin-bill, which was played at the University of Albany.

In the opener, the Hawks (3-9/1-3 NE10) flew out to a 2-0 lead after an inning of play and held on from there. The Golden Knights had their chances, but could not get the timely hit, leaving nine runners on base.

Saint Rose (6-12/4-2NE10) did get within one in the seventh when Bowen doubled home junior right-hander Dana Nicoletti with two out. However, senior right-hander Sam Hennequin fanned the next hitter to end it.

Nicoletti went the distance and struck out six.

Nicoletti walked and stole second to begin the second game, then came around to score on a one-out single by Bowen. In the third, junior infielder Jadyn Costello singled home Myler, who had doubled with two outs, to give the Golden Knights a 2-0 lead.

Saint Rose then scratched across an unearned run in the fifth to go up 3-0.

In the bottom half, Saint Anselm cut into the deficit with a pair of unearned runs off sophomore right-hander Roma Mazzariello. The Hawks would then tie the game in the sixth and set the stage for Myler's seventh inning heroics.

Mazzariello went the distance to earn her third NE10 victory of the spring. She allowed three runs, just one earned, whiffed four and walked none.

"I wanted to keep everything low," said Mazzariello. "I was little nervous that someone might score in the seventh, but I held my own did not walk anyone today, which is always a great thing."

Next on the schedule for Saint Rose is Friday's home noon doubleheader versus Adelphi. Saint Anselm hosts Franklin Pierce for an NE10 twin-bill Tuesday at 3:00 pm.
