ALBANY, N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose scored twice in the sixth to win the second game of a home
Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader versus Southern Connecticut 4-3 this afternoon. The late rally salvaged a split for the Golden Knights (11-23/9-10 NE10), which fell 6-3 in the first game.
In the opener, the Owls (7-27/4-17 NE10) six through eight hitters went a combined 5-for-8 with five runs scored and two RBI to get the win.
The visitors got on the board first in the second with a pair of runs. SCSU added an unearned run in the third before the Golden Knights scored a run in their half.
Southern Connecticut increased its advantage with two in the fourth.
In the home half, sophomore left fielder
Alina Germinerio then lofted a sacrifice fly to right to plate infielder
Taylor Solomon.
The Owls manufactured a run in the sixth, before senior infielder
Kayla Bancroft cleared the center field fence for a solo shot in the bottom half.
The Golden Knights got going early in the second game, taking a 1-0 lead after just two batters. Junior right-hander
Dana Nicoletti walked and stole second before coming home on a double by senior shortstop
Carly Wood.
The Owls took the lead in the third when junior shortshop BryAnna McIntosh hit a three-run home run.
Saint Rose made it a one-run game in the fifth when sophomore
Beth Jones hit a pinch-hit double to score junior left fielder
Katie Shevlin, who started the frame with a double.
The Golden Knights took the lead in the sixth. After Shevlin walked with the bases loaded, a "Texas Leaguer" by Nicoletti plated Bancroft with the game-winner.
The two squads are scheduled to play again tomorrow at noon.
