WEST HAVEN, CONN. – Junior right-hander
Dana Nicoletti went a combined 3-for-5 with a RBI but The College of Saint Rose was swept in a doubleheader by New Haven on Sunday afternoon. The visiting Golden Knights (10-21/8-8 NE10) fell in the
Northeast-10 Conference game 2-0, before being walked off on, 3-2, in the bottom of the ninth of the non-league night cap.
Senior infielder
Kayla Bancroft opened the scoring of the second game when she doubled home senior shortstop
Carly Wood in the sixth. The Chargers (28-10/16-5 NE10) came right back in their half when senior shortstop Julie Devlin put one over the fence.
Both squads put up a crooked number in the eighth. Sophomore infielder #Alina Germinerio# crossed the plate on a pinch-hit single by Nicoletti in the top half, before New Haven retied it on a wild pitch.
The Golden Knights loaded the bases in the ninth but were unable to take the lead. The Chargers then won the game via an error in their at bat.
Sophomore right-hander
Roma Mazzariello went all 8.2 innings in the circle for Saint Rose.
New Haven, the top-ranked team in the April 19th edition of the NCAA East regional rankings, put across an unearned run in both the third and the fifth to take the league game.
Nicoletti totaled a pair of hits in the opener for the Golden Knights.
Saint Rose is scheduled to play a doubleheader at Le Moyne on Tuesday afternoon. The Upstate Challenge twin-bill will begin at 3pm. The Chargers host Southern Connecticut for two at 3pm on Tuesday.
