ALBANY–The College of Saint Rose dropped a pair of games, 5-4 and 11-7, to visiting New Haven in
Northeast-10 Conference action this afternoon.
The Golden Knights (4-24/3-12 NE10) rallied from a 3-1 deficit by scoring twice in the sixth, but the Chargers (18-8/9-6 NE10) added one in the seventh and another in the ninth to take a 5-3 lead. Saint Rose again responded with a run in the home half of the ninth, but left the bases loaded to allow New Haven to grab the win.
The Chargers then broke open a 5-5 game by scoring five times in the seventh inning of the nightcap.
Senior catcher
Joe DeLuca had a monster day for Saint Rose. He homered three times and drove in five runs and scored five times himself. Also, freshman second baseman
Andrew Pedone and junior first baseman
Joe Foran had three hits apiece throughout the afternoon.
Furthermore, sophomore left fielder
Kenny Fils-Aime doubled twice, senior third baseman
Alex Chandler had a double and single, and junior catcher
Tom Moore also contributed two base hits during the second game.
For New Haven, senior left fielder Robert Petrillo finished 4-for-5 with a solo home run in the opener. Senior shortstop Tom Walraven, freshman center fielder Matt Chamberlain, and junior designated hitter Joe Caico all had four hits in the nightcap. Senior third baseman Jack Zagaja went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs.
Between today's two games, the College honored former star shortstop Matt Galas who was part of the 1997 NCAA Tournament team as a senior. Matt passed away this winter. His wife, Rachel, and two sons; Danny and Robby, were presented with his game-worn jersey in honor of his memory.
Looking ahead, Saint Rose and New Haven are scheduled to conclude the weekend series tomorrow at 2:00 pm. That game will be streamed live on
