GOLDEN KNIGHTS STRIKE EARLY TO UPEND NEW HAVEN

Pedone, DeLuca, and Foran all drive home two runs

ALBANY–The College of Saint Rose jumped out to a 3-0 first inning lead and then added a run in the second and four more in the third on the way to today's 9-0 Northeast-10 Conference victory against visiting New Haven.
 
Senior southpaw Joe Pokrentowski allowed just four hits and fanned seven over the distance to pick up the win.
 
Freshman second baseman Andrew Pedone went 3-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs while senior catcher Joe DeLuca and junior first baseman Joe Foran each belted two run singles to propel the Golden Knights (5-24/4-12 NE10) offense.
 
"Joe Pokrentowski had a great outing and it was nice to have a game where we hit, pitched, and played great defensively," said head coach Wayne Jones.
 
Foran provided most of the damage in the first, Pedone drove home junior center fielder Matt McKinnon in the second, and DeLuca came through in the fourth. Senior third baseman Alex Chandler was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the eighth to account for the final run.
 
Senior third baseman Jack Zagaja finished 2-for-4 with a double for the Chargers (18-9/9-7 NE10).
 
Looking ahead, Saint Rose has games at Southern Connecticut State and Le Moyne on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively. They return home next weekend to host Pace for a three-game set. Meanwhile, New Haven has a non-league date at Post University on Tuesday.
