NEW HAVEN, CT–The College of Saint Rose put the tying run in scoring position, but could not break through as host Southern Connecticut State took today's
Northeast-10 Conference nightcap 4-2 after upending the Golden Knights 10-0 in the opener.
Â
Saint Rose (1-16/0-4 NE10) trailed 4-1 heading to the ninth when senior third baseman
Alex Chandler led off with a double to the left-center field gap. Junior first baseman
Joe Foran and senior catcher
Joe DeLuca then drew walks to load the bases.
Â
However, freshman right-hander Brendan Ebert induced three strikeouts around a wild pitch, which scored Chandler, to end the threat.
Â
Foran reached base four times with a base hit, a double, and a pair of walks; while Chandler finished 2-for-4 to lead the Golden Knights attack. Freshman left fielder
Ernie Geraci added a sacrifice fly in the second.
Â
Furthermore, junior right-hander
Caleb Gregg hurled 1.1 innings of no-hit ball out of the bullpen.
Â
In the opener, the Owls (14-4-1/3-0 NE10) took advantage of a pair of errors to score seven times in the fourth before tacking on three more in the eighth.
Â
Freshman second baseman
Andrew Pedone went 2-for-4 with a double to pace Saint Rose.
Â
Looking ahead, both clubs are tentatively scheduled to return to the diamond for 3:30 pm games Tuesday. The Golden Knights have a home date with American International, while Southern Connecticut State is set to visit cross-town rival New Haven.
