BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. – Sophomore center fielder
Astasia Myler hit the game-winning home run in the top of the seventh as The College of Saint Rose defeated Pace 4-3 in
Northeast-10 Conference action Monday afternoon.
All four of the Golden Knights' (9-16/7-4 NE10) runs in the important Southwest Division victory came via the homer, as senior infielder
Kayla Bancroft and junior infielder
Jadyn Costello also went deep.
"We were hitting the ball hard all game, but right at people, so it was nice that the long ball showed up," said Saint Rose head coach
Abby Arceneaux. "As coaches we are proud of how resilient this group was today."
Senior catcher Nikole Larm homered to left to open the scoring in the bottom of the second.
The Golden Knights took the lead in the fourth when Bancroft hit a two-run homer to left-center.
Pace came right back in its half of the frame, plating a pair of runs on a walk, a trio of hits and two sacrifices.
Costello cleared the fence in the fifth to tie the game and set things up for Myler in the seventh. Just as she did at Saint Anselm on April 9, the rookie drove the ball over the left field fence for what would prove to be the deciding run.
The Setters (15-13/9-7 NE10) managed to get runners to second and third in the seventh, before sophomore right-hander
Roma Mazzariello finished what she started by having Larm fly to right.
Sophomore left fielder
Alina Germinerio went 2-2 with a walk, while junior infielder
Taylor Solomon doubled and scored on the long ball by Bancroft.
Both teams play NE10 doubleheaders at 3pm on Wednesday. Saint Rose hosts Le Moyne, while the Setters entertain Adelphi.
