GOLDEN KNIGHTS DROP TWO AT ADELPHI

GARDEN CITY, NY–Host Adelphi scored the game winner in the bottom of the ninth in the nightcap of today's Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader to complete the sweep with a 4-3 win. The Panthers took the opener 9-0.

The Golden Knights (4-21/3-9 NE10) opened up a 3-1 lead in the fifth when junior center fielder Matt McKinnon doubled to right and freshman right fielder Anthony Scheller followed with a triple to right-center. Freshman second baseman Andrew Pedone flied to center to score Scheller.

However, Adelphi (19-14/9-6 NE10) cut its deficit in half with a run in the eighth and scored twice in the ninth when sophomore left fielder Brandon Morse drove an RBI base hit down the left field line. The Panthers then took advantage of a two-out error that yielded the winning run.

McKinnon finished 2-for-4 with a run scored to lead the Saint Rose offense while junior right-hander Caleb Gregg allowed a run and fanned three throughout 3.1 innings of work out of the bullpen.

In the opener, Adelphi senior right-hander TJ Santiago scattered three hits and struck out seven over the distance to improve to 6-2 on the year.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights are back home Tuesday to take on conference rival American International at 3:30 pm. Meanwhile, the Panthers have a 3:30 pm non-league tilt at Saint Thomas Aquinas on Monday.
