ALBANY–The College of Saint Rose split a
Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader with Adelphi this afternoon. The Golden Knights scored four runs in the sixth to take the opener 8-5 and dropped the second game 6-4.
Junior infielder
Taylor Solomon went 3-for-6 with a RBI and two runs scored for Saint Rose (8-14/6-3 NE10). Junior left fielder
Katie Shevlin homered, scored two runs, had three RBI and reached base safely three times.
The visiting Panthers (25-12-1/16-5 NE10) began the scoring quickly in the opener, when junior infielder Brenna Martini blasted a two-run homer to center.
The Golden Knights put together a four-run second. Solomon plated sophomore center fielder
Astasia Myler with a single. Junior designated player
Jadyn Costello then scored on a sacrifice fly by senior infielder
Kayla Bancroft. With two outs, Shevlin drove a two-run home run to center.
The combination of a Martini double, an RBI single by senior right fielder Stephanie Staiano, and an error allowed Adelphi to knot the game at four in the third.
The Golden Knights had a great opportunity to break the tie in the fourth, but left the bases loaded.
In the sixth, Saint Rose again had the bases loaded and came through with four runs. Junior right-hander
Dana Nicoletti lofted a sacrifice fly to plate Solomon with the go-ahead run. After a Panthers error scored sophomore infielder Elizabeth Jones, sophomore right fielder
Briana Bowen and Myler laced RBI singles.
Freshman shortstop Kailah Konkel homered to left center in the top of the third to begin the scoring in the nightcap. Martini and junior catcher Megan Lewis would eventually follow with RBI singles to give Adelphi a 3-0 lead.
Saint Rose added two runs in the second. Shevlin scored Costello on a sacrifice fly to center and senior shortstop
Carly Wood singled home Bancroft.
The Golden Knights tied the game when Costello homered to left-center in the fifth.
Adelphi quickly regained the lead in the sixth with back-to-back singles sandwiched around a passed ball. Another single would give the Panthers an insurance run. Adelphi added another insurance tally in the seventh on a groundout.
The Golden Knights pushed an unearned run across in their last at-bat, but could not complete the comeback.
The two teams are back in action tomorrow for an 11am doubleheader.
