GOLDEN KNIGHTS STAND UP TO DEFENDING NE10 CHAMPION PENMEN

HARTFORD–The College of Saint Rose hung around with seventh ranked and defending Northeast-10 Conference champion Southern New Hampshire throughout a doubleheader that concluded near midnight Saturday on the Trinity College campus.

The Penmen (14-4/4-10 NE10) ultimately won the opener 2-1 and took the finale 6-1 of a twin-bill that was moved from Albany due to the effects of lingering winter weather.

The Golden Knights (1-14/0-2 NE10) cut a 2-0 deficit in half in the seventh when junior center fielder Matt McKinnon scored senior catcher Joe DeLuca on an RBI ground out. However, they could not manufacture the equalizer.

Senior southpaw Joe Pokrentowski allowed five runs and fanned seven throughout 6.0 innings of work before handing the ball to junior right-hander Dominic Razzano who hurled 2.0 innings of no-hit ball out of the bullpen.

Junior first baseman Ryan Sullivan had a pair of hits for Southern New Hampshire.

In the finale, the Penmen jumped out to a 4-1 lead after three innings and then added a run in the fourth and another in the eighth. DeLuca and sophomore designated hitter Kenny Fils-Aime had two hits each for Saint Rose, while Sullivan finished 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored for the Penmen.
