SAINT ROSE UPENDS DOMINICAN, FALLS TO WSSU

CARY, NC–The College of Saint Rose upended Dominican 8-4, before falling 7-4 to Winston-Salem State in a pair of games earlier today at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.

Freshman second baseman Andrew Pedone went 4-for-5 with a double and two singles to lead the Golden Knights (1-9) in the opener. Also, senior third baseman Alex Chandler drove in four runs behind a three-run blast, and scored three himself, while senior shortstop Tyler Ungerland finished 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI. Freshman right fielder Anthony Scheller wound up 3-for-5.

On the hill, junior right-hander Caleb Gregg fanned six throughout 3.0 innings of no-hit ball in relief.

In today's second game, junior second baseman Joe Foran and senior designated hitter Joe DeLuca had two hits apiece while freshman right-hander John Braun pitched 5.0 innings of one run, three-hit ball out of the bullpen.

The Rams jumped out to a 6-1 lead with three runs in the third and three more an inning later, before Pedone tripled to left and came across on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Ungerland in the fifth.

The Golden Knights then cut their deficit to a pair in the sixth when DeLuca tripled and scored on a double by Chandler. Two batters later, Chandler came across on an error.

The game stood that way until the ninth when Winston-Salem State pushed across the game's final run.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose is scheduled to wrap up its stay at the USA Baseball National Training Complex tomorrow with an 11:30 am game versus St. Augustine's and a 4:00 pm date with Winston-Salem State.
