CARY, NC–The College of Saint Rose upended Dominican 8-4, before falling 7-4 to Winston-Salem State in a pair of games earlier today at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.
Freshman second baseman
Andrew Pedone went 4-for-5 with a double and two singles to lead the Golden Knights (1-9) in the opener. Also, senior third baseman
Alex Chandler drove in four runs behind a three-run blast, and scored three himself, while senior shortstop
Tyler Ungerland finished 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI. Freshman right fielder
Anthony Scheller wound up 3-for-5.
On the hill, junior right-hander
Caleb Gregg fanned six throughout 3.0 innings of no-hit ball in relief.
In today's second game, junior second baseman
Joe Foran and senior designated hitter
Joe DeLuca had two hits apiece while freshman right-hander
John Braun pitched 5.0 innings of one run, three-hit ball out of the bullpen.
The Rams jumped out to a 6-1 lead with three runs in the third and three more an inning later, before Pedone tripled to left and came across on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Ungerland in the fifth.
The Golden Knights then cut their deficit to a pair in the sixth when DeLuca tripled and scored on a double by Chandler. Two batters later, Chandler came across on an error.
The game stood that way until the ninth when Winston-Salem State pushed across the game's final run.
Looking ahead, Saint Rose is scheduled to wrap up its stay at the USA Baseball National Training Complex tomorrow with an 11:30 am game versus St. Augustine's and a 4:00 pm date with Winston-Salem State.
