SAYRE THREE-POINTER IN WANING SECONDS LIFTS GOLDEN KNIGHTS PAST NEW HAVEN

WEST HAVEN, CT-Senior forward Tyler Sayre knocked down a 3-pointer from the top of the key with three seconds remaining to lift The College of Saint Rose to a 71-68 Northeast-10 Conference victory at New Haven today.

Sayre's shot capped off a wild second half that featured nine lead changes and four ties. The Golden Knights (19-6/11-5 NE10) owned a five point, 65-60, advantage with 4:45 to go after senior guard Damon Coleman canned a trey from the right wing.

However, sophomore guards Danny Upchurch and Michael Bourke knocked down a pair from long distance to put the Chargers (12-10/7-9 NE10) back up 66-65 with 3:05 showing on the clock. Saint Rose then retook the lead after junior guard Mical-Ryan Boyd threw down a dunk and junior forward Jack Jones hit the second of two free throws with 19 ticks remaining.

At the other end, Upchurch buried two from the line himself to tie it once again with 12 seconds to go that set the stage for Sayre who came off a screen after New Haven had called its final timeout.

"It was an excellent college basketball game today. Our guys got back to the basics and made big plays on both ends all afternoon," said head coach Brian Beaury. "They also proved how important it is to do the little things. Those little things were the difference this afternoon."

Sayre and Coleman finished with 15 points apiece to pace four Golden Knights double-figure point producers. Boyd tossed in 14, while senior guard Chris Dorgler finished with 10. Sayre also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.

For the Chargers, freshman forward Kessly Felizor recorded a "double-double" of 15 points and 11 boards while fellow freshman forward Roy Kane, Jr. went 4-for-4 from the arc on the way to a game-high 20 points. Upchurch filled up the box score to the tune of 15 points, seven rebounds and 10 assists.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose returns home Wednesday to host NE10 rival Adelphi. The second half of the conference doubleheader is set to get underway at 7:30 pm. Meanwhile, the Chargers are home again Monday for a 7:00 pm non-conference date with Bridgeport.
