ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose shot 66.7 percent from the floor to cruise 108-71 past
Northeast-10 Conference rival American International on Senior Day this afternoon. The Golden Knights handed out 29 assists that helped set up 44 baskets for what proved to be their fifth straight win.
Â
"We had great energy on our Senior Day. It carried over throughout the game and was evident on both ends of the court. Twenty-nine assists on 44 baskets says a lot about this team, and shooting nearly 70.0 percent makes my job an easy one. It is certainly a nice way to head into the NE10 playoffs," said head coach
Brian Beaury.
Â
Senior forward
Tyler Sayre paced five players in twin-figures with 24 points. Junior guard
Mical-Ryan Boyd and senior forward
Chris Dorgler finished with 15 apiece, while junior forwards
Jack Jones and
Julian Lipinski scored 12 and 11 respectively. The latter also hauled in a season-high 11 rebounds, all off the defensive glass.
Â
The Golden Knights put themselves in control with a 19-3 run that spanned a seven minute stretch midway through the first half. The jaunt transformed a 17-15 lead into a 36-18 cushion with 6:47 to go until the break. They eventually led by as much as 40, 102-62, in the final three minutes.
Â
For the Yellow Jackets (10-17/4-15 NE10), senior guard Juwan Moody went 6-for-8 from the arc on the way to a team-high 22 points.
Â
Looking ahead, Saint Rose awaits to see who its first NE10 Championship opponent will be. The postseason gets underway with first round action this Friday, February 24. Meanwhile, American International plays its regular-season finale Tuesday with a 7:30 pm home date versus Adelphi.
Â
Prior to today's game, Sayre, Dorgler,
Brodie Munson, and
Damon Coleman; along with manager
Patrick Driscoll, were honored in recognition of their contributions to the program.
Â
Also, Munson was named the recipient of the second annual
John Pesce Memorial Award following today's contest. John graduated from Saint Rose in 1986 with a bachelor's degree in business administration. He was a loyal member of the Golden Knights men's basketball team from 1984-86. Two years ago, he passed away following a courageous battle with brain cancer. John exemplified the core values of being a Saint Rose alumnus by living his life as a motivated and caring citizen. The John Pesce Memorial Award was established by John's family, friends, and teammates. It is given annually on an alternate basis to a men's or women's basketball player who embodies John's spirit and commitment to team and school.
Â
Furthermore, the College donated the gate receipts to the NABC's Coaches versus Cancer program.
