ALBANY, N.Y.-The College of Saint Rose held visiting Adelphi to 20 points below its season scoring average to upend the Panthers 75-59 in
Northeast-10 Conference action tonight. The Golden Knights also held an opponent to less than 40.0 percent shooting for the fourth time this season and committed fewer than 11 turnovers (10) for the fifth straight game.
Â
"We had really good balance on both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor. Our ability to hold one of the highest scoring teams in the NE10 to 59 points was the difference in the game," said assistant coach
Mike Perno.
Â
Senior forward
Julian Lipinski scored 16 points and pulled down seven rebounds, while senior guard
Jamaal Greenwood and junior guard
Shane Herrity tossed in 15 and 13 respectively to lead the Golden Knights (8-3/4-1 NE10) to their third win in the last four games. Furthermore, junior forward
Matt Cerutti grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds, six from each glass, and scored nine points.
Â
Senior guard Michael Coffey led the Panthers (3-6/1-4 NE10) with 18 points.
Â
Saint Rose generated a 10 point lead in the opening 10 minutes and maintained control the rest of the way. The advantage ballooned to 17 with 8:04 left in the first half when senior forward
Jack Jones finished a Cerutti feed. The Panthers got to within seven with 4:35 to go, but the Golden Knights outscored their guests 14-10 to go in the locker room up 11, 41-30, at the break.
Â
Saint Rose then opened the second half with a 14-6 spurt that made it a 19 point affair, 55-36, with 14:44 remaining. It then pretty much remained a 20 point ballgame.
Â
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights are off for the final exam break until Tuesday, December 19 when they visit East Stroudsburg University for a 7:00 pm non-league meeting. Meanwhile, the Panthers travel to Springfield on Saturday for a 3:30 pm conference date at American International.
