GOLDEN KNIGHTS DEFEAT WARRIORS TO WIN THIRD STRAIGHT

Boyd knocks down game-winner with four seconds left to propel Saint Rose


EAST STROUDSBURG, Penn.-Senior guard Mical-Ryan Boyd knocked down a 15-foot jumper with four seconds remaining and junior guard Shane Herrity scored a career-best 21 points to lead The College of Saint Rose to an 80-78 win at East Stroudsburg tonight.

The contest swung both ways throughout with 12 ties and a like number of lead changes.It almost got away though as the Golden Knights (9-3) had to rally from a nine point deficit midway through the second half and shoot 54.5 percent (30-for-55) from the floor to win their third straight.
 
"Obviously it's nice to see Mical back in the lineup. I thought it was a great effort by all of the guys. This was a tough road win against a talented team," said assistant coach Mike Perno.
 
Boyd finished with 20 points on 9-for-14 shooting in his 2017-18 debut. Senior forward Julian Lipinski and junior forward Matt Cerutti recorded identical "double-doubles" with 12 points and 10 rebounds apiece. Lipinski also tied his career-high with five blocks.
 
Senior forward Steve Harris paced the Warriors (7-2) with 19 points and seven rebounds.
 
Saint Rose overcame a 10-3 early deficit to go in the locker room up 41-38 at the break and led by six, 53-47, after Cerutti finished inside with 16:12 to go. East Stroudsburg responded with a 17-2 run to take its largest lead, 64-55, with 10:28 remaining.
 
However, Saint Rose chipped away and drew even at 70-70 with 5:30 left after Herrity finished a conventional three-point play. The contest was tied on three ensuing occasions, before Herrity hit a pair from the line to make it 78-75 with 48 seconds left. Each team them came up empty before Warriors freshman guard Marc Rodriguez drained a 3-pointer from the right corner that tied it 78-78 with 16 seconds left.
 
The Golden Knights then immediately pushed the ball up the floor and Boyd dribbled to the middle before floating home the game-winner.
 
Looking ahead, Saint Rose returns home Sunday, December 31 for a noon matinee versus Daemen. Meanwhile, the East Stroudsburg is home Saturday, December 30 for a 3:00 pm Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) date with Mansfield.
Notes: The Golden Knights have shot better than 50.0 percent from the floor on three occasions this season…They have won the turnover battle on eight occasions…Cerutti has been in twin-figures in five of the last six games…He now has three "double-doubles", while Lipinski has a pair…Saint Rose leads the Northeast-10 Conference in scoring defense (63.8), field goal percentage defense (40.1), and blocks (4.3)…Cerutti is third in rebounding average (8.0), while Lipinski is second in block average (2.1).
