QUICK START PUSHES GOLDEN KNIGHTS PAST CHARGERS

Saint Rose outscores New Haven 30-14 in the paint

WEST HAVEN, Conn.–The College of Saint Rose jumped out to a 14-2 lead throughout the initial five minutes and opened up a 22 point advantage in the early going of the second half to upend host New Haven 66-57 in Northeast-10 Conference action today.

The Golden Knights (7-3/3-3 NE10) shot 52.0 percent from the floor (26-for-50), outscored the Chargers 30-14 in the paint, and turned their 11 miscues into 17 points during the afternoon.

"It was a great team effort today. Our front court really set the tone in the paint, which was the difference," said assistant coach Mike Perno.

Senior forward Julian Lipinski finished 7-for-10 from the floor on the way to a team-high 20 points. Junior forward Matt Cerutti wound up in twin-figures for the fourth straight game with 12 points to go along with eight rebounds, while freshman guard Adam Anderson dropped in 14 points behind a 6-for-8 shooting effort.

Senior guard Danny Upchurch recorded 10 points, 10 boards, and six assists to pace New Haven (4-4/2-2 NE10), which dropped its third straight.

Saint Rose eventually boosted its cushion to 22 points, 41-19, following a Cerutti dunk with 18:13 remaining in the ballgame. However, the Chargers responded with a 27-13 jaunt during the ensuing 11 minutes to get to within eight, 54-46.

Senior guard Jamaal Greenwood and senior forward Jack Jones then drained consecutive 3-pointers to push the advantage back to 14, 60-46, with 6:26 to play.

New Haven held Saint Rose scoreless for the following 5:03, but Lipinski accounted for all of the team's six points in the final 1:24 to secure the victory.

Looking ahead, both teams have NE10 games next week. Saint Rose hosts Adelphi on Wednesday at 7:30 pm. Meanwhile, the Chargers travel to Pleasantville Tuesday to face Pace University.
