SAINT ROSE HOLDS DOWN WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN TO PICK UP ITS SIXTH WIN OF THE YEAR

Anderson scores a season-high 23 points to lead the Golden Knights

ERIE, Penn.-The College of Saint Rose held West Virginia Wesleyan scoreless throughout the final 3:02 and committed a season-low nine turnovers on the way to tonight's 71-64 victory in the consolation game of the 34th Annual Gary Miller Classic on the Gannon University campus.

"We got really good contributions from a lot of guys tonight, especially freshman Adam Anderson and we were able to come away with a tough win," said assistant coach Mike Perno.

Anderson went 10-for-14 from the floor on the way to a season-high 23 points to lead four Golden Knights (6-2) who finished in double-figures. Senior forward Jack Jones tossed in 12 points while junior forward Matt Cerutti just missed his second career "double-double" with 10 points and nine rebounds. Junior guard Shane Herrity also scored in 10 points, while sophomore guard Michael Wearne handed out seven assists and committed only one turnover.

Junior guard Kevin Kangni finished with a game-high 17 points to lead the Wildcats (0-6).

The contest featured 11 lead changes, before Herrity drained a 3-pointer that put Saint Rose ahead to stay, 65-62, with 3:59 remaining. Senior forward Aaron Ariri then canned a pair of free throws to get West Virginia Wesleyan within one, but Anderson drained a jumper to push the advantage back to three. The Wildcats then coughed up the ball on two ensuing occasions while the Golden Knights converted all four of their attempts from the stripe during the final 24 seconds to seal the victory.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose returns to Northeast-10 Conference action Wednesday with a 7:00 pm meeting at "Upstate Challenge" rival Le Moyne in Syracuse. Meanwhile, West Virginia Wesleyan has a 7:30 pm Mountain East Conference home date Wednesday versus Shepherd University.
