ORANGEBURG, N.Y.-The College of Saint Rose overcame a 10 point first half deficit to upend Caldwell 50-48 during tonight's final evening of action at the Sixth Annual Daniel Sullivan Memorial Tournament on the campus of Dominican College.

The Golden Knights (4-1), who were playing their second of back-to-backs within a week, closed out the final 5:40 of the first half with a 12-3 run to get to within three, 23-20, at intermission. They then held off the Cougars (0-5) down the stretch after missing the front end of three one-and-one's during the final 31 seconds.

"It was tough playing our fifth game in seven days, but the guys showed tremendous grit and gutted-out a tough win against a scrappy Caldwell team," said assistant coach
Mike Perno.

Junior forward
Matt Cerutti paced Saint Rose by tying his career highs of 11 points and 11 rebounds. Junior guard
Shane Herrity also tossed in 11 points, while junior forward
Julian Lipinski and freshman guard
Adam Anderson scored nine apiece.

Senior guard Derek Dorn and sophomore guard Zay Jennings finished with 11 and 10 points respectively for Caldwell (0-5).

The Cougars scored 13 of the game's initial 16 points and pushed their advantage to a game-high 12, 20-8, after sophomore guard Vaughn Covington knocked down a 3-pointer with 5:40 left until the break. However, Herrity countered with a trey of his own and Lipinski finished inside, which ignited the Golden Knights spurt. Herrity later closed the half with a layup to make it a one possession affair.

Herrity came up big again when he scored a layup that put Saint Rose ahead to stay, 32-31, with 13:41 to go in the game. However, Caldwell hung around and was within a pair, 44-42, with 4:49 remaining after sophomore forward Ruud Lutterman canned both of his attempts from the stripe. Two minutes later, Lipinski scored inside and sophomore guard
Michael Wearne knocked down a jumper to put the Golden Knights ahead by eight, 50-42.

That proved to the final basketball for Saint Rose, but the Cougars ultimately ran out of time as Jennings hit a perfunctory jumper a second before the final buzzer sounded.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights return home Tuesday to take on Pace University in the second half of a
Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm. Meanwhile, the Cougars have a 4:00 pm road date at Palm Beach Atlantic University on Sunday, November 26 at 4:00 pm.
