SAINT ROSE REMAINS PERFECT AT HOME

Golden Knights hold an opponent to 40.0 percent shooting or less for the fourth time this season

ALBANY, N.Y.-The College of Saint Rose led wire-to-wire to remain unbeaten at home with tonight's 74-64 victory against visiting Northeast-10 Conference rival Pace University. The Golden Knights also held an opponent to 40.0 percent or less shooting for the fourth time this season as the Setters buried only 30.2 percent (16-for-53) of their field goal attempts.

"Our defense really played tough for 40 minutes. We stayed the course by holding Pace to 16 field goals for the entire game and that was the difference," said assistant coach Mike Perno.

Junior guard Shane Herrity scored a team-high 15 points and handed out six assists, with only one turnover, while senior guard Jamaal Greenwood recorded 10 of his 13 points after halftime to lead the Golden Knights (5-1/2-0 NE10), who improved to 3-0 on their own court. Also, freshman guard Adam Anderson tossed in 12 points and hauled in seven rebounds, while junior forward Matt Cerutti finished with nine points and five boards.

Sophomore forward Peyton Wejnert scored a game-high 26 points throughout 23 minutes of reserve duty to lead the Setters (1-4/1-1 NE10).

Saint Rose opened up a 10 point, 14 -4, lead midway through the first half after senior forward Jack Jones buried a 3-pointer from well beyond the top of the key. Pace managed to get within five on three occasions, but Greenwood canned a trey just before the buzzer to afford the Golden Knights an 11 point, 32-21 halftime advantage.

The second half was played at a methodical pace with 31 fouls whistled on the two teams collectively. Saint Rose boosted its advantage to 13 three separate times and led by as much as 14, 59-45, when senior forward Julian Lipinski put back an Anderson missed 3-pointer with 5:48 remaining.

The Setters never really went away though. They made the most of their trips to the free throw line during the final nine minutes when they went 15-for-15 from the stripe, but only 4-for-11 from the field. However, Herrity closed it out by gathering a rebound off his own missed foul shot to keep an eight point lead intact with 24 ticks left. He then canned two more from the line to end it.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights will take part in the Gary Miller Classic at Gannon University in Erie, Penn. Friday and Saturday, November 24 and 25. Saint Rose will face Northern Michigan on Friday at 5:30 pm with the consolation and championship games set for Saturday at 5:30 pm and 7:30 pm respectively. Meanwhile, the Setters will host Post University in a non-league game on Sunday, November 26 at 3:00 pm.
