GOLDEN KNIGHTS GUT OUT COMEBACK VICTORY

DOLLARD LEADS ALL SCORERS WITH 16 POINTS AND NINE REBOUNDS

LAKEWOOD, N.J.-The College of Saint Rose women's basketball team erased a 10-point deficit in the final 4:05 to defeat Georgian Court 76-74 at the Georgian Court Invitational.

A quartet of players scored in double figures for the Golden Knights (2-0). Sophomore forward Leah Dollard led all scorers with 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting. She grabbed nine rebounds to top all players as well. Both marks were career-highs.

Dollard helped the Golden Knights complete the come-from-behind win with three points and two defensive boards in the final 26 seconds.

"We gutted it out down the stretch with solid defense and great rebounding," said Saint Rose Head Coach Karen Haag. "Georgian Court is a talented and well-coached team and we were fortunate to pull this one out on the road."

Sophomore guard Courtney Clasen added 14 points on 50.0 percent shooting. Junior guard Isa Vara de Rey and junior forward Karissa Birthwright tallied a dozen points each. Vara de Rey dished out a game-high six assists and corralled six rebounds, while Birthwright secured seven boards.

The Lions (0-2) received 16 points each from senior guard Jaelyn Tweedy and junior forward Destiny Thompson.

Saint Rose trailed for much of the non-conference matchup, including the majority of the second, third and fourth quarters, but battled back to lead when it counted. Birthwright and Vara de Rey keyed the comeback, totaling seven points as part of an 11-0 run to give the visitors their first lead in a 27:12 span with 48 seconds remaining.

After Dollard knocked down the front end of a one-and-one with 13 ticks left, a layup by Tweedy was off the mark.

On Wednesday evening the Golden Knights will open Northeast-10 Conference play at Southern Connecticut. The Lions visit Mercy on Saturday afternoon.

"We are excited to open our NE10 schedule on Wednesday at SCSU," said Haag.
