WORCESTER, Mass.- The College of Saint Rose women's volleyball team defeated Assumption 3-1 (25-22, 25-12, 23-25, 29-27) in Saturday afternoon
Northeast-10 Conference action.
A balanced offense helped the Golden Knights (12-12/3-6 NE10) get their second-straight victory.
The victors were led by junior middle hitter
Shayna Webber, who had 14 kills on .419 hitting.
Saint Rose got 11 kills each from sophomore outside hitter
Stevie Schweitzer and senior middle hitter
Maddy Halverson.
Freshman middle blocker
Victoria Fogg set a new career-best with eight kills for the Golden Knights.
Junior setter
Sam Kubik registered her ninth "double-double" of the fall, totaling 45 assists and 13 digs.
In the back, the Golden Knights held Assumption (5-16/3-9 NE10) to a .112 hitting percentage.
Sophomore libero
Tina Ceriello totaled a team-high 33 digs, a new career-high. Schweitzer added 24 digs, while Halverson registered 18 digs and three total blocks.
Webber blocked a game-high seven attack attempts.
"Assumption did a nice job of mixing up their offense," said Saint Rose Head Coach
Vanessa Volpe-Rivera. "But we were able to stay disciplined in our blocks and our defense moved well."
The Greyhounds were led offensively by senior outside hitter Julia Foyette, who had 17 kills on .375 hitting.
Sophomore defensive specialist Brenna Chrisom dug a game-high 39 attacks, while senior setter Kiki Romanik totaled 30 assists and 12 digs.
The Golden Knights never trailed in the opening set, opening up leads of 4-0 and 10-4. When Assumption cut the lead to 18-17, a Webber kill followed by a service ace from sophomore defensive specialist
Madison Gerace turned the tide back Saint Rose's way.
Schweitzer, Webber and Halverson had four kills each in the first set.
In the second set, Saint Rose held the Greyhounds to a -.065 hitting percentage to cruise.
After dropping a close third set, the Golden Knights erased a six-point deficit to take a hard-fought fourth set. There were 10 ties in the final frame.
Both teams have home NE10 matches next week. On Tuesday, Saint Rose hosts American International, while on Saturday, the Greyhounds host Saint Anselm.
