GOLDEN KNIGHTS WRAP UP REGULAR SEASON WITH 3-1 TRIUMPH AT NEW HAVEN

Saint Rose begins postseason run Tuesday at Southern Connecticut State

WEST HAVEN, Conn.-The College of Saint Rose roared back from an early 1-0 deficit by scoring three times late in the match to upend host Northeast-10 Conference rival New Haven 3-1 in its regular-season finale this evening.

"I'm so happy for the guys tonight! We knew a talented New Haven team on Senior Night was going to be a very tough game and so I was pleased with our resiliency. I'm really proud of the way the squad has matured throughout the past couple of months and we are looking forward to representing the College in the postseason," said head coach John Ciano.

The Golden Knights (6-8-2/6-5-2 NE10) tallied their three strikes from a trio of players only 17 minutes apart after junior forward Sukrija Dudic put the Chargers (3-13-1/3-9-1 NE10) ahead 1-0 with a mere 6:06 gone by.

Junior forward Paulo Sdoia, freshman midfielder Andrew Lule, and senior forward Suleiman Haruna-iya all found the back of the net for Saint Rose. Meanwhile, sophomore keeper Gianni Carillo recorded three saves in each half.

Sdoia collected a pass from freshman forward Vince Matozzo and drove a shot to the lower left corner from the middle of the area at the 68:05 mark to tie the affair. Lule then scored the game-winner when he fired home a cross from sophomore midfielder Carlos Menjivar with 82:41 elapsed.

Two minutes later, Haruna-iya buried a feed from senior midfielder Elidon Bardhollari to pretty much remove all doubt about the eventual outcome.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose is the sixth seed in the upcoming NE10 Championship and will thus visit third seed Southern Connecticut State for a quarterfinal Tuesday. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm. The two squads played to a scoreless draw this past Tuesday in Albany.
Notes: This is the best regular-season finish throughout  the program's NE10 tenure, which began in 2000…The Golden Knights will be making their third ever NE10 Championship appearance…Saint Rose also advanced in 2013 and 2015, when it dropped road quarterfinal matches…Haruna-iya leads the squad's scoring parade with 14 points behind six goals and a pair of assists.
