NEW HAVEN, Conn.-The College of Saint Rose had its postseason run halted with tonight's 3-1
Northeast-10 Conference Championship quarterfinal setback at Southern Connecticut State.
Â
The host and third seed Owls (11-2-4) built a 3-0 lead by the opening four minutes of the second stanza, before freshman midfielder
Andrew Lule headed home a cross from junior midfielder
Carlos Menjivar with 11 minutes remaining in the contest.
Â
Senior forward Louis Greenway-Tambini scored a pair of unassisted goals to propel Southern Connecticut State. Senior back Lucas Saunders scored the first goal off an assist from senior forward Sabri Akter with 17:41 gone by. Tambini then struck nine minutes later and again in the second half.
Â
The sixth seed Golden Knights (6-9-2) generated a 13-12 shot advantage, but the Owls put forth an 8-5 differential in threats on target. Sophomore keeper
Gianni Carillo recorded five saves, while senior Noah Varonier made four stops at the other end.
Â
Looking ahead, Southern Connecticut State will now face second seed Merrimack in an NE10 semifinal Friday.
Notes: This autumn marked the best regular-season finish throughout the program's NE10 tenure, which began in 2000. Saint Rose has now made NE10 Championship appearances in 2013, 2015, and 2017.
