ALBANY, N.Y. - Sophomore
Gianni Carillo stopped a penalty shot in the second overtime as The College of Saint Rose men's soccer team battled to a scoreless draw with #22 Southern Connecticut in Tuesday night
Northeast-10 Conference action.
"This was a huge point for us tonight. Southern Connecticut is a well coached and talented program," said Saint Rose Head Coach
John Ciano. "I was very proud of the way we defended and were fortunate to get the shutout."
Carillo made five saves for Saint Rose, none bigger than his diving stop of a penalty shot taken by Owls' freshman midfielder Ignasi Cererols.
Senior Noah Varonier stopped four shots for SCSU (9-2-4/7-1-4 NE10).
Though out-shot by a 17-12 margin, Saint Rose did earn six corners to the visitors' five.
Both sides close out their regular-season slates with 7:00 pm matches Friday. The Golden Knights (5-8-2/5-5-2 NE10) travel to New Haven, while the Owls, ranked 22nd in the latest
United Soccer Coaches' Poll, host Saint Anselm.
