GARDEN CITY, N.Y.-The College of Saint Rose threw a scare at #14 Adelphi, before succumbing 2-1 in
Northeast-10 Conference action tonight.
Â
The Golden Knights (5-7-1/5-4-1 NE10) tied the game when freshman forward
Vince Matozzo lined a shot from the top of the area that ricocheted off the crossbar and behind the goal line with 32:14 elapsed, eight minutes after sophomore Taylor Kaczynski put the Panthers (10-1-2/8-1-1 NE10) up 1-0.
Â
The contest remained deadlocked at intermission, but Kaczynski struck the game-winner in the opening seven minutes of the second stanza when he collected a pass from senior midfielder Federico De Oliveira and slipped a shot past a diving sophomore keeper
Gianni Carillo.
Â
Carillo finished with six of his season-high nine saves in the second half to help keep Saint Rose within striking distance.
Â
Looking ahead, both squads have 4:00 conference meetings Saturday. The Golden Knights host Southern New Hampshire for Senior Day. Kickoff is set for 4:00 pm. Meanwhile, Adelphi travels to Rindge, N.H. to take on Franklin Pierce.
Notes: The Golden Knights lone three setbacks in their last eight matches came at the hands of nationally ranked opponents. Fourteen different players have figured in the scoring column this autumn.
