SAINT ROSE CHALKS UP 1-0 WIN AT ASSUMPTION

WORCESTER-The College Saint Rose kept up its winning ways of late by upending Northeast-10 Conference rival Assumption 1-0 today. The Golden Knights (5-6-1/5-3-1 NE10)) are now unbeaten in five of their last six matches and are 3-2 on the road this fall.

"I'm really happy for the guys today. They battled and earned a hard fought win against a very good Assumption squad. I was specifically pleased with the ball movement in the first half and the way the entire team defended to earn the shutout," said head coach John Ciano.

Senior forward Suleiman Haruna-iya accounted for the game's lone strike, while sophomore keeper Gianni Carillo made five of his eight saves after halftime to keep the Greyhounds (4-9-0/2-7 NE10) off the scoreboard. Junior midfielder Carlos Menjivar set up the goal with a cross that Haruna-iya touched home from just outside the six-yard box.

The match was action packed as the two sides manufactured 39 shots collectively, including 22 on-target of which 14 came from the Golden Knights. Assumption sophomore keeper Brian Murray was forced to make a staggering 13 stops throughout the afternoon. Additionally, the contest nearly took on a different tone as Greyhounds' sophomore forward Simon Tricka rattled a post a mere 32 seconds in.

Looking ahead, both sides have 7:00 pm conference meetings this Tuesday. Saint Rose heads to Long Island to take on #2 Adelphi, while the Greyounds host New Haven.
Notes: The Golden Knights lone setback in their last six matches came at the hands of #14 Merrimack. Fourteen different players have figured in the scoring column this autumn. Haruna-iya is tied for 10th among the NE10 goal scoring leaders with a team-high five strikes on the year.
