ALBANY, N.Y. - The College of Saint Rose women's volleyball team used a strong defensive effort to defeat Goldey-Beacom 3-0 (25-20, 27-25, 25-20) in non-conference action Friday night.

The Golden Knights (9-11/0-5 NE10) held the visitors to a .079 attack percentage and tallied 12.5 total blocks.
"We have been working hard on our defense and it showed tonight in both the front and back row," said Head Coach
Vanessa Volpe-Rivera. "We are looking forward to continuing this next weekend."
Senior middle hitter
Maddy Halverson was a stalwart defensively, registering 13 digs and five blocks. Junior middle hitter
Shayna Webber, and freshman middle blocker
Victoria Fogg also blocked five Lightning attacks.
Seven players totaled kills in the victory. Webber led the home team with seven kills on .500 hitting. Sophomore outside hitter

Junior setter
Sam Kubik distributed 20 assists, while sophomore libero
Tina Ceriello totaled 18 digs.

Goldey-Beacom  (7-12/6-4 CACC) received 16 kills from freshman outside hitter Breanne Haley.
Both team hits under .065 in the first set, but the Golden Knights were able to gut out a 25-20 set win.
In the second set, Saint Rose trailed 24-22 despite strong hitting. However a dual block by Halverson and junior middle hitter
Grace Campbell on Haley followed by an ace by senior outside hitter
Cara Kullman knotted the score. Kills by Schweitzer and Fogg, combined with a Lightning attack miscue, helped the Golden Knights regain the momentum with a 27-25 set victory.
Looking ahead, both teams return to conference play. Saint Rose hosts Saint Michael's in
Northeast-10 Conference action on Friday night. Goldey-Beacom has a CACC match at Nyack tomorrow afternoon.
