ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose held an opponent to less than 40.0 percent shooting for the fifth straight game to run its win streak to six with today's 68-60 victory versus
Northeast-10 Conference rival Saint Anselm at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.
Â
"Other than getting outrebounded, I thought we played a tough Saint Anselm squad very well. We stayed in control almost the entire time and finished with poise and composure. It was a great shooting day for us as well," said head coach
Karen Haag.
Â
Sophomore guard
Ashley Vanderwall tied her career-high with 17 points and senior guard
Taylor Nazon finished with 15 points and five rebounds to lead the Golden Knights (9-5/4-4 NE10), who shot 53.2 percent (25-for-47) from the floor. Additionally, senior forward
Staci Barrett tossed in 14 points and hauled in five boards as well.
Â
Saint Rose led throughout the final 35 minutes and went in to the locker room up 35-27 at the break, before boosting its advantage to a game-high 15 heading into the fourth period after Nazon canned a pair from the lane, came up with a steal and drained a jumper to close the third.
Â
The Hawks (8-6/4-5 NE10) cut their deficit to nine, 59-50, with 6:02 to go, but junior guard
Britani Stowe converted a traditional three-point play to make it a 12 point, 62-50, ballgame. It remained double digits the rest of the way until the Hawks converted a perfunctory layup in the final 15 seconds.
Â
Senior guard Candace Andrews finished with 16 points, six rebounds, and five assists to pace Saint Anselm, while senior forward Kaila Duarte and junior guard Ali Glennon added 13 and 12 points respectively.
Â
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights head to Worcester, MA Wednesday to visit conference rival Assumption. The first half of the league twin-bill is scheduled to tip off at 5:30 pm. Meanwhile, the Hawks are back home Tuesday for a 5:30 pm NE10 date with Le Moyne.
