SAINT ROSE HOLDS DOWN SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE

Golden Knights Run Win Streak To Five Games

MANCHESTER, NH-The College of Saint Rose held host Northeast-10 Conference rival Southern New Hampshire to 30.8 percent (16-for-52) shooting from the floor to run its win streak to five games with tonight's 53-47 victory.

"We made big stops and had great rebounding down the stretch. It was not our best second half, but the team played well in the final three minutes. It's a great road win," said head coach Karen Haag.

Sophomore forward Karissa Birthwright scored 16 points and tied her season-high with nine rebounds to lead the Golden Knights (8-5/3-4 NE-10). Also, senior guard Taylor Nazon tossed in 12 points and sophomore guard Ashley Vanderwall finished with 11 behind a 4-for-6 shooting effort.

It was a one or two possession game for most of the evening, but Nazon drained a jumper that put the Golden Knights (8-5/3-4 NE10) ahead the stay, 43-42, with 7:02 remaining in the contest.

Three minutes later, Birthwright converted a fast break feed from junior guard Britani Stowe that increased the advantage to six, 48-42.

However, the Penmen (7-7/3-5 NE10) scored five unanswered points to make it a one point affair, 48-47, with 33 ticks showing on the clock. Vanderwall then made the first of two free throws, but senior forward Staci Barrett hauled in the second miss that subsequently put Nazon on the line.

Nazon made her two free throws to make it 51-47 Saint Rose with 17 seconds remaining, and then capped the win by coming up a steal and canning two more from the stripe.

Senior guard Sara Ryan led Southern New Hampshire with 12 points, while sophomore forward Kylie Lorenzen finished with seven points and a like number of rebounds.

Looking ahead, both teams are back on the hardwood with NE10 games Saturday. Saint Rose returns home to host Saint Anselm for the first half of a league doubleheader that gets underway at 1:30 pm. Meanwhile, the Penmen travel to Springfield to take on American International at 1:30 pm as well.
Notes: The Golden Knights have now won six of their last seven…Nazon has been in double-figures scoring throughout 12 of the squad's 13 contests to date…Five players are averaging between 13.8 and 8.2 points with Nazon leading the way…Saint Rose has now held each of its last four opponents to less than 40.0 percent shooting from the floor…The Golden Knights have limited their foes to an average of 51.8 points, have outscored them 65-47 from the free throw line, have forced them to shoot 18.0 percent (16-for-89) from the arc, and have manufactured an +8.4 rebounding differential throughout their current five game win streak.
