GOLDEN KNIGHTS CLAW BACK ONLY TO FALL AT SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE

Saint Rose Gets To Within One After Falling Behind By 16 Early On


MANCHESTER, NH-The College of Saint Rose clawed back from an early 18-2 deficit to get to within one in the final six minutes only to fall 75-64 at Northeast-10 Conference rival Southern New Hampshire tonight.
 
Junior forward Julian Lipinski scored 12 points and hauled in six rebounds to lead the Golden Knights (12-4/4-3 NE10).
 
Junior guard Mical-Ryan Boyd, and sophomore guards Pharroh Gordon and Shane Herrity each tossed in nine points for Saint Rose, which got 32 points from its bench.
 
The Golden Knights whittled their early deficit to single digits after Lipinski drained a jumper that made it a 29-20 ballgame with 8:41 to go until intermission. Saint Rose then held the Penmen (10-2/6-2 NE10) without a field goal throughout the final 2:24 to go in the locker room down six, 38-33, at the break.
 
Saint Rose then kept itself within striking distance throughout the second half. Junior guard Jamaal Greenwood knocked down a 3-pointer from the top key that got the Golden Knights to within a point, 60-59, with 5:54 to go. However, Southern New Hampshire scored 12 of the game's ensuing 14 points to put itself back in control, 72-61, with 57 seconds remaining.
 
Senior forward Devin Gilligan went 9-for-11 from the field en route to a game-high 23 points for the Penmen, who improved to 9-0 at home. Senior guard Jerome Harris contributed 15 points and seven rebounds, while junior forward Chris Walters wound up with 13 points and nine boards.
 
Looking ahead, both teams are back on the hardwood with NE10 games Saturday. Saint Rose returns home to host Saint Anselm in the second half a league doubleheader that is set to tip-off at 3:30 pm. Meanwhile, the Penmen travel to Springfield to take on American International at 3:30 pm as well.
Notes: Saint Rose entered today ninth in the country in scoring defense (64.1) and 12th in total assists (236)…The Golden Knights lead the NE10 in the former category and are third in free throw percentage (77.2), and fourth in steals (5.8)…Nine players are seeing at least an average of 10 minutes of playing time and six are scoring between 13.1 and 7.0 points per game with Boyd leading the way.
