GOLDEN KNIGHTS IMPROVE TO 5-2 AT HOME

Barrett becomes 20th member of the 1,000 point club


ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose held Northeast-10 Conference rival Merrimack to 20 second half points and generated a 42-34 rebounding advantage to improve to 5-2 at home with tonight's 59-47 triumph at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. In the process, the Golden Knights (11-6/6-5) snapped the Warriors (9-8/7-5 NE10) five game win streak.
 
"It was a great team effort tonight. I am especially proud of our second half. We got our focus back on rebounding and dominated the glass throughout the final 20 minutes. I am proud of the way we finished tonight," said head coach Karen Haag.
 
Senior forward Staci Barrett went 8-for-12 from the floor on the way to a season-high 21 points to become only the 20th player in Saint Rose annals to ascend the 1000-point plateau (1,008). Also, sophomore guard Ashley Vanderwall tossed in 15 points while freshman guard Cameron Graupman handed out five assists and pulled down seven rebounds.
 
The Golden Knights walked in the locker room down 27-22 at halftime, before closing the third period with a 14-4 run that made it 44-38 Saint Rose heading to the fourth. Barrett knocked down a jumper in the paint to ignite the spurt and Vanderwall capped it with a jumper of her own.
 
Senior guard Taylor Nazon eventually made it a seven point, 50-43, affair midway through the fourth after she finished inside. Saint Rose then held Merrimack without a field goal during the final 5:33 to secure the win.
 
Freshman forward Denia Davis-Stewart finished with 14 points, nine rebounds, and five blocks to lead the Warriors.
 
Looking ahead, both teams hit the road Saturday for 1:30 pm NE10 dates. The Golden Knights travel to Colchester, VT to face Saint Michael's, while Merrimack heads to Long Island to take on Adelphi.
Notes: The Golden Knights have now won eight of their last nine games…Balance is a component with four players averaging between 13.6 and 10.5 points with Nazon leading the way.
