GREAT SHOOTING EFFORT LEADS GOLDEN KNIGHTS PAST FRANKLIN PIERCE

Saint Rose shoots 50.0 percetn from the field for the seveth time this year


ALBANY, NY-The College of Saint Rose shot 50.0 percent from the floor for the seventh time this season and held Northeast-10 Conference foe Franklin Pierce to 15.5 points below its season scoring average to upend the visiting Ravens 87-67 today.

Additionally, the Golden Knights (15-4/7-3 NE10) put five players in double-figures scoring for the fifth time this year and engineered a 39-24 rebounding differential.
 
"We beat a very talented and experienced Franklin Pierce team today. It took five guys scoring in double figures and a great game on the glass to do it. Our focus was excellent all game long," said head coach Brian Beaury.
 
Junior guard Mical-Ryan Boyd and senior guard Chris Dorgler led the balanced attack with 19 and 17 points respectively. Also, junior forward Jack Jones went 3-for-6 from long range to finish with 15 points throughout 24 minutes off the bench.
 
Senior guard Damon Coleman scored 13 points on 5-for-6 shooting while junior forward Julian Lipinski wound up with 12 points, nine rebounds, and five assists without a turnover.
 
Saint Rose owned a 17-15 cushion with 13:13 left in the first half when the Golden Knights scored 12 of the game's next 16 points to take a 10 point, 29-19, lead with 8:52 to go. Jones canned back-to-back 3-pointers to cap the jaunt.
 
Franklin Pierce (10-6/7-3 NE10) managed to cut its shortfall to five at 36-31, but the Golden Knights closed the final 3:06 of the first half on an 11-5 run that afforded them a 47-36 advantage at intermission.
 
The lead hovered between 10 and 13 points during the opening eight minutes of the second stanza. Lipinski then threw down a dunk, Coleman buried a jumper in the paint, senior forward Tyler Sayre converted inside, and Boyd drained a pair from the stripe that made it a 21 point, 68-47, affair with 9:16 left.
 
The Golden Knights eventually boosted their lead to 25 en route to their sixth win in the last seven games.
 
Junior forwards Jordan Lackey and Asante Sandiford led the Ravens with 21 and 14 points respectively.
 
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights are back home Wednesday to face conference rival Merrimack. The second part of the league doubleheader is scheduled to get underway at 7:30 pm. It will be Saint Rose Community Night will all faculty, staff and their immediate families admitted free. Meanwhile, the Ravens are also home Wednesday with a 7:30 pm date versus NE10 rival New Haven.
Notes: Today was the annual Capital District Chapter Alumni Association Game…Boyd was recognized as the CDCAA Player of the Game…Saint Rose is now 8-2 at home where they are shooting 49.7 percent (307-for-618) from the field…The Golden Knights have shot better than 40.0 percent from the arc in seven of the last eight contests after canning 47.4 percent (9-for-19) from that distance today…They lead the NE10 in scoring defense (65.1) and are second in free throw percentage (78.3) and 3-point field goal percentage (41.1)…Eight players are seeing at least an average of 12.2 minutes of playing time and six are scoring between 13.3 and 7.4 points per game with Boyd leading the way…Jones has come off the bench to score in double figures in each of the last three games…He is fifth among the NE10 leaders in 3-point shooting accuracy at 46.5 percent (33-for-71).
