ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose dictated the pace of play throughout most of the evening only to have visiting
Northeast-10 Conference rival Saint Anselm register the game's lone goal in the final three minutes of a 1-0 setback tonight.
Â
The Golden Knights (2-5/0-4 NE-10) engineered a 12-4 shot advantage and developed five corner kick opportunities while surrendering only one, but ultimately were unable to find the back of the net.
Â
Junior back JD Hayward provided the dagger when he jumped on a loose ball following a scramble at the goal line and drove home a shot to propel the Hawks (2-4/1-3 NE-10) to an improbable victory.
Â
Junior midfielder
Suleiman Haruna-iya manufactured four shots and sophomore midfielder
Carlos Menjivar added three for Saint Rose.
Â
This evening also marked the second annual
Go4theGoal game to help fight pediatric cancer. A raffle was held so fans could donate to the cause and the Golden Knights student-athletes wore gold laces as a sign of their support.
Â
Looking ahead, both squads are back on the pitch Tuesday. Saint Rose travels to North Andover, MA to take on Merrimack at 7:00 pm, while Saint Anselm host Le Moyne at 4:00 pm.
