SYRACUSE-The College of Saint Rose suffered its third one goal setback this autumn as host Le Moyne bounced back from a 1-0 deficit to upend the Golden Knights 2-1 in today's
Upstate Challenge and
Northeast-10 Conference match.
Â
The Dolphins (4-1-1/2-1-0 NE-10) engineered an 8-5 shot advantage and a 12-4 corner kick differential to improve to 3-0 at home.
Â
Sophomore forward
Ryan Rooney scored his league leading sixth goal of the year to put the Golden Knights (2-4-0/0-3-0 NE-10) up 1-0 with 12:50 elapsed. Sophomore midfielder
Carlos Menjivar sent a ball to the top of the area that Rooney drove home into the top left corner.
Â
However, Le Moyne leveled it 10 minutes later when freshman forward Salar Faryar finished unassisted. Senior back Ryan Matthews then struck for the game-winner at the 79:02 juncture when he tapped in a rebound that Saint Rose senior keeper
Christian Esposito initially deflected off the crossbar.
Â
Esposito finished with two saves on the afternoon, while junior Ben Beaury was not called upon to cradle any threats on target at the other end for the Dolphins.
Â
Looking ahead, both sides have home conference matches set for Saturday. Saint Rose will host Saint Anselm at 6:00 pm while Le Moyne will take on Merrimack at 1:00 pm. The Golden Knights will be helping to raise awareness of pediatric cancer by partnering with the
Go4theGoal Foundation throughout the afternoon.
