GOLDEN KNIGHTS COME BACK TO UPEND ROBERTS WESLEYAN

Menjivar Scores The Game-Winner In The 56th Minute

ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose scored twice less than two minutes apart early in the second half to chalk up a come from behind 2-1 win versus Roberts Wesleyan this evening at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. In the process, the Golden Knights (2-1) avenged an 8-1 setback at the hands of the RedHawks a year ago in Rochester.

"I was very proud of the guy's resiliency today. Roberts Wesleyan is a great team and our guys showed some real grit while putting together some nice attacking sequences in the comeback win. This was a great way to wrap up our nonconference slate and head in to our conference opener next week," said head coach John Ciano.

Sophomore midfielder Carlos Menjivar scored the game-winner with 55:05 elapsed after sophomore forward Ryan Rooney tied it at the 53:26 mark.

Saint Rose engineered an 18-15 shot differential, including a 10-6 margin in the second period, although Roberts Wesleyan (1-3) afforded itself 12 corner kicks as opposed to three for the Golden Knights. Senior keeper Christian Esposito recorded three of his five saves in the second half for Saint Rose, while junior John Ciavaglia turned aside six threats on target at the other end.

Roberts Wesleyan struck first with nine minutes left until intermission. Junior forward Logan Wood lined a free kick from 35-yards out that freshman back Dan Reger deflected to junior midfielder John Stewart. Stewart subsequently got his head on the ball for a 1-0 RedHawk halftime lead.

However, Rooney leveled the contest at 1-1 when he beat Ciavaglia to a loose ball and chipped it in to an empty net. Senior back Pablo Lajeunesse then created space in the middle of the pitch and slipped a nifty pass that Menjivar collected in stride before ripping his shot inside the right post.

Looking ahead, both teams have home matches on tap for Tuesday. The Golden Knights are scheduled to play their Northeast-10 Conference opener when Stonehill arrives for a 7:00 pm meeting. Meanwhile, the Redhawks will take on Le Moyne at 6:00 pm.
